Jesus calls us to a spiritual revolution built on Faith, Hope and Love. These supernatural virtues, unlike their pale worldly cousins, take root and develop to the degree that we open ourselves to the true Jesus. At the epicentre of this revolution in thought is the mystery of the cross. This is the gateway that the Pharisees would not cross and indeed stopped others from crossing. Through this door lies the power of the mystery of the Gospel. And the true heart and mind of Jesus.
Many choose a lesser path -- a Jesus constructed in their own image, rather than submitting to “the righteousness that comes from God.” One can be religious, full of zeal and love for “God” without ever crossing the true threshold of Faith, Hope and Love. As St Paul says,”Why did they fail? . . . They trusted in good deeds rather than trusting in the righteousness that comes from God.” “They have a veil over their heads.” It is only by truly and fully dying to ourselves that we can be open to receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
